Fort Myers, Fla (May 20, 2021) – On Tuesday, May 18, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools inducted 35 new School District of Lee County students into The Take Stock in Children Program which provides scholarships for low-income students. The Foundation welcomed and awarded 9 middle school students and 26 high school students with this scholarship totaling $500,000.
The virtual luncheon served as an opportunity for parents, educators and members of the business community to recognize the students for all their hard work they put forth to get into the Take Stock in Children Program. Foundation President & CEO, Marshall T. Bower, Esq. delivered encouraging words to the new scholars on the importance of this program and opportunities and mentorship that lies ahead while being in this prestigious program.
“These outstanding students all maintained high GPAs and fulfilled their promise to be good citizens of our community,” says Marshall T. Bower, President and CEO of The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. “Equipped with a college education they will become out next leaders and decision makers!”
Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a statewide scholarship program that provides a unique opportunity for deserving low-income youth to escape the cycle of poverty through education. Students enter the program in sixth or ninth grade and commit to remaining crime- and drug- free, maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher, and meeting with a mentor regularly.
