Awarded over $90,000 for 53 Classroom, School, and District Projects

FORT MYERS, FL (December 11, 2023) – The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools held its Annual Classroom, School, and District Grants Award Reception at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. The event was held to honor the School District of Lee County applicants who were selected as recipients of funding for project proposals to benefit student engagement and quality of learning.
Over 125 business leaders, community partners, teachers, administrative personnel, and Foundation Board Members attended the reception. Over $90,000 was awarded, funded in part by a major grant from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundation made possible by the State of Florida. Additional funding was raised through sponsorships from various business and community partners including major sponsor Suncoast Credit Union, as well as Lee County Electric Cooperative, FineMark National Bank & Trust, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, Covanta Lee, Utilities Structures, Inc., B&I Contractors, Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands, Gamma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, and Mr. Marshall T. Bower, Esq..

Grant recipients were challenged to create a unique, engaging, and hands-on project proposal, bringing innovative strategies to learners. Awardees were then selected through selection committee proposal review, using an equitable and rigorous grading scale and metrics. Recipient categories and totals included: five Art projects totaling $6,463.75; fourteen Health, Fitness, and Nutrition projects totaling $34,249.10; nine Literacy projects totaling $12,091.63; and twenty-five STEM projects totaling $37,284.40. These projects, once implemented, will impact eighteen different elementary schools and nineteen different middle, high & special schools.
