The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools Receives Florida Lottery Lighting the Way to a Bright Future Grant

Foundation looks to provide additional support to Lee County students with grant funding

FORT MYERS, FL (Wednesday, October 4th) – The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools announced today, it has received a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the Florida Lottery. Through this Lighting the Way to a Bright Future program grant, the Foundation will be offering additional workshops for School District of Lee County students to better prepare them for their SAT/ACT’s, equip students with knowledge and opportunities regarding the Bright Futures scholarship and its requirements, as well as provide financial support for both the cost of SAT/ACT exams and college application fees. The workshops and financial assistance will benefit the future of hundreds of Lee County middle and high school students.

The Lottery recognizes that while all Florida students can earn a Bright Futures Scholarship, many may need additional support to meet the criteria and prepare for post-secondary success – particularly students of low socio-economic backgrounds and aspiring first-generation college students.

This year the Florida Lottery provided $50,000 to the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations to fund nine standout projects by local education foundations that “light the way” for thousands of students to earn a Bright Futures Scholarship for college and career certification programs throughout Florida, including The School District of Lee County.

“At the Lottery, enhancing educational opportunities for students in our state is at the very heart of why we do what we do,” said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis. “We are proud to partner with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and to provide these grants to local districts who are Lighting the Way to a Brighter Future for Florida’s students.”
