The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools (FLCPS) Receives 6,000 Golden Apple Teacher Nominations

1,730 Lee County School District Educators Nominated

FORT MYERS, Fla (September 30, 2021) – The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools received over 6,000 nominations for the 35th Annual Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Program. Of those 6,000 nominations, 1,730 Lee County District Educators were nominated and are now eligible to apply to have the opportunity to become a 2022 Golden Apple Teacher.

The Golden Apple Teacher Program is a way to recognize and honor excellence in teaching while also sharing the great work teachers in The School District of Lee County do each year.   It also allows students and members of the community to show their appreciation for educators who have made a difference and lasting impact on their life.

“This community owes a debt of gratitude to all of our outstanding educators in the Lee County School District. The teaching profession plays an integral role in the shaping of our community to be a great place to live, work and raise families”, stated President & CEO of the FLCPS  Marshall T. Bower, Esq.  “ Honoring them and shining the light on the profession is as important now as it ever was.”

Nominated teachers are invited to submit an application for the award and continue through a rigorous selection process. The Golden Apple Selection Committee, made up of community and business leaders, is charged with the arduous task of reviewing and narrowing down the applications to 100 Teachers of Distinction and then 30 Finalists. Those Finalists are personally interviewed and observed in their classrooms and six teachers are selected as the Golden Apple Award Recipients, representing all of the great teachers in The School District of Lee County.

The Recipients are honored at the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Banquet, a black-tie affair being held at Caloosa Sound Convention Center & Amphitheater on Friday, April 29, 2022.

The Golden Apple Teacher Recognition ProgramTM was the first major project founded and developed by The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. Since its inception thirty-five years ago, as a way to enhance public education by recognizing and rewarding excellence in teaching, the Foundation has awarded 195 educators with the prestigious Golden Apple Teacher Award.
